Qualifications:
Candidates should possess deep subject-matter expertise in Advanced Design and History/Theory of Interior Design and working knowledge of software applications used in interior design practice.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of professional practice and 3 years of college-level teaching experience in interior design / architecture or related field. Candidates must have experience in using digital software used in interior design and architecture practice.

Education Required:

Candidates must possess one of the following categories of acceptable academic credentials: 1) terminal combination of a professional bachelor’s and a master’s degree; 2) a terminal professional master’s degree; or 3) a doctorate. Foreign equivalents to U.S. degrees are acceptable. At least one of the candidate’s degrees must be in interior design or interior architecture. Additional degrees in a related design discipline, such as Architecture, Industrial Design, and Furniture Design, are welcomed.

Candidates must either be eligible for NCIDQ certification or in candidacy in a doctoral program at the time of hire. Long-term contract/ Tenure, as appropriate, and promotion are contingent upon attainment of NCIDQ certification or completion of the doctoral degree, respectively; attainment is necessary by the time the dossier is submitted.

For this advertised position, the contract type may be practice track or tenure track and will be awarded based on the credentials and experience of the finalist.

Uniquely-qualified candidates without the minimum academic credentials, who exemplify exceptional professional experience, critical practice or scholarship, present widely-recognized professional work, and pedagogical style compatible with Nexus Learning will be considered for a position on the practice track.

Responsibilities:

The appointed candidate will teach at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate Interiors programs. The primary responsibility will be to teach all aspects of a sequence of two design studios as well as lecture courses in Advanced Design and History/Theory of Interior Design. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the programs through activities such as curricular/course development, course coordination, assessment of student learning outcomes, student advising, participation in studio reviews, serving on College/ University committees, and preparation for CIDA accreditations.

The primary purpose of the job is to interact with clients, gain understanding of the way that their business operates, and design a space that will optimize their workplace.

To analyze project design scope and manage execution of that work. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a customer service approach are essential.

Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with and assist project teams through all phases of design
  • Perform research and selection for finishes and products as they relate to architectural interiors and furniture
  • Solve design problems through all phases of design
  • Assist in the preparation of graphic materials for presentation to clients
  • Present design schemes and documents to the client
  • Work with technical team to ensure design intent is accurately interpreted in documents
  • Perform final review of mock-ups, material and finish samples submitted by contractors

Requirements

 

  • Professional degree in Interior Design from an accredited program, NCIDQ registration preferred
  • At least 8 years of experience in an architecture or design firm
  • Significant corporate workplace experience, as well as knowledge of design trends and workplace strategy
  • Experience with all phases of interior architecture and design projects
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong skills and experience with finish/material selection and FFE design/specification
  • Excellent planning/documentation/detailing skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite, experience with Revit and SketchUp a plus

Interior Designer (Hackensack, NJ)
